Well, they do. In fact, they already have been sleeping together for all of this time! To make the contrast more clear, let us replace bad culture with the words "sins, vices, crimes, immoralities."

To say that they do not mix with religion, is like saying priests are not who they are: the number # 1 rapists and sex abusers of all time!

Summary:

Religion is a set of belief that you believe or profess to believe and either up to lips only (profession) or is practised.

There was first (original) religion and there is second or a third. When the next one is imposed or tried to supplant the first one, it cannot be avoided that possible there are remnants of the previous religion that do not set well or is not present in the current one being imposed or practice... and so there remnants which are kept by the people for some reason, mostly because they are valuable... these remnants of a bygone religion is most probably what makes the culture of the people; if they are doubtful, then they are named superstition or myths. If they are good, they are called culture, virtues.

So, culture and virtues can be of a past set of beliefs (religion) that has survived the test of time because the people loved it, preserved it, still practice it, despite of or is setting well with the new or currect religion.
